English medium schooling in Muktainagar, since 2004

Nursery to Class 10 on the Maharashtra State Board syllabus, with sections small enough for a teacher to know every child by name.

Learning

Every child does the experiment, not just the ones in the front row

A science lab, a computer room and a library that children actually get a period in every week.

School life

Games, drawing and the annual gathering are on the timetable

Not extras that get dropped when exams come around. Kabaddi, kho-kho and cricket on the ground every week.

A school small enough that no child sits at the back and disappears

Balvishwa English Medium School has taught families from Muktainagar and the villages around it since 2004. English is the medium from the first day, while Marathi and Hindi are taught properly alongside it, because children here need all three.

We hold sections to around 28 children. Most of our teachers have been here for years, which is why a Class 6 class teacher already knows what a child struggled with in Class 3, and why parents deal with the same familiar faces year after year.

"Come and see an ordinary Tuesday. We would rather you watched a normal class than a rehearsed programme."

What the school actually has

Nothing here is a plan on paper. All of it is in use this term.

Science laboratory

Working stations rather than a demonstration table, so children from Class 5 upwards do the experiment themselves every week.

Library

English, Marathi and Hindi books on open shelves, with a graded reading section for the primary classes and a library period every week.

Computer room

Computers from Class 5, with typing, spreadsheets and basic coding taught as a timetabled subject rather than a club.

Playground and games

Kabaddi, kho-kho, cricket and volleyball on the school ground, with games on the timetable for every class.

School transport

Buses covering Muktainagar and the surrounding villages, with an attendant travelling on each one. Route list is on the transport page.

Drawing, music and the annual gathering

Taught inside school hours, and every child gets on the stage at the annual gathering rather than only the confident ones.

What parents tell us

“

My son was behind in reading when he joined. His teacher called me every week for a term, and he reads on his own now.

“

Both my children have been here since senior KG. I have never had to chase anyone for an answer about fees or the bus.

Parent of Class 4 and Class 9 students
“

We came from a Marathi medium school and worried she would struggle with English. The teachers gave her extra time and she manages well.
